Dr. Barry Kerzin Shares Mindfulness Wisdom with i-PRO Leaders
“How to Become an Effective and Caring Leader.”
i-PRO had the distinct honor of welcoming Dr. Barry Kerzin—personal physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a globally renowned mindfulness teacher—to our headquarters in May. Under the theme “How to Become an Effective and Caring Leader,” Dr. Kerzin provided direct guidance to our leadership team.
Dr. Kerzin emphasized that to become a leader who acts with compassion and care toward others, one must first learn to care for oneself. Central to this is the practice of “being present”—focusing fully on the here and now.
In today’s fast-paced world, where we are constantly overwhelmed by information, staying present is not easy. Dr. Kerzin explained that it is essential to first cultivate the ability to feel at ease in silence, then observe one’s inner state with mindfulness. When we encounter negative emotions within ourselves, we should transform them into positive energy to maintain emotional hygiene.
Participants also had the opportunity to experience mindfulness firsthand through walking meditation and breathing exercises led by Dr. Kerzin.
According to Dr. Kerzin, Mindfulness practices are known to reduce fear and anxiety, relieve stress, enhance concentration, and improve mental clarity. At i-PRO, we have long incorporated mindfulness activities such as meditation and yoga into our employee well-being programs, in collaboration with the Human Values Institute, led by Dr. Kerzin.
Our CHRO, Dayanna Nunez, commented, “Considerate and compassionate leadership behaviors significantly enhance employee well-being and play a vital role in the success of organizations and businesses.”
It was a truly valuable and inspiring opportunity for our leaders to learn directly from Dr. Kerzin, who has spent over 40 years training in India and continues to serve as the Dalai Lama’s personal physician.
