Notes on camera installation in cold climates

Last update: February 2022

This article provides notes on camera installation in cold climates.

Applicable model:

WV-X6533LN / WV-S6532LN

1. Power source recommended in cold climate

When installing those cameras in cold climates, we recommend using a 24V AC power supply or a compatible PoE injector (60W) to enable internal heaters of camera.
By turning on the heaters, snow or frost on the front panel will melt.

Note

Snow and frost may not melt easily depending on the ambient temperature and weather conditions.

2. Power source NOT recommended in cold climates

We do not recommend PoE+ hub / device in cold climates especially when IR light is on.
This is because one of the internal heaters does not operate when IR light is on due to low power supply, and the glass surface of camera lens may not be defrosted under the following conditions:
- Snowfall accompanied by strong wind
- Thick snow and ice on the glass surface of camera lens

3. Internal heaters

When the internal temperature of camera drops below +10˚C (50˚F), the heater unit automatically turns on.

4. Cold start of camera

The camera needs time to start up in cold start conditions.  For details, refer to the following camera start-up procedures.

Note

We recommend -20˚C (-4˚F) or higher temperature for cold start.

When temperature drops below -20˚C (-4˚F)

1. Start the camera.

2. The message “WARMING UP-PLEASE WAIT” will appear while the internal heaters warm up the camera.
Wait until the camera warms up and this message disappears.

3. The camera restarts automatically.

When temperature drops below -30˚C (-22˚F)

1. Start the camera.

2. The message “WARMING UP-PLEASE WAIT” will appear while the internal heaters warm up the camera.
Wait more than 2 hours until the camera warms up and this message disappears.

3. The camera restarts automatically.

4. Unplug 24V power supply or compatible PoE injector and plug it back in, for the stable performance of power supply unit inside the camera.
