AI Processing Relay

Last updated: July 2025

Scenario:
With i-PRO Object Search plug-in v1.3.0 or later, alarm events from AI Processing Relay are supported.
This software enables to turn "non-AI camera" into "AI camera" without any re-installation costs.
AI Processing Relay on X-series camera receives video data from non-AI cameras, performs AI processing with AI extension software.

With AI-VMD, AI People detection or AI Vehicle detection, objects or event detection from non-AI camera will be triggered as Generic event.
This is an example when AI-VMD is installed on X-series camera(cam1) and AI Processing Relay with AI-VMD for 3 non-AI cameras (cam2, cam3, and cam4).

*AI Processing Relay app for i-PRO mini is not supported.
*AI Processing Relay with AI Occupancy detection app and AI Scene change detection are not supported.
*Advanced Object search for people and vehicles are not supported for non-AI camera as these are integrated as Generic Event.

In this page, the X-Series camera WV-X25700-V2L and the non-AI cameras WV-U2140LA, WV-U2140L, and WV-U2132L are registered, and the procedure is explained using the WV-U2140LA.

 5. How It Works

1. Preparation

1.1 Installing AI Processing Relay

Install AI Processing Relay on an AI X-Series camera.
For details, refer to the AI Processing Relay manual:

・ AI X-Series camera - Section 2: Preparation

1.2 Camera Settings

Configure the AI Processing Relay.
For details, refer to the AI Processing Relay manual:

・ AI X-Series camera - Section 3: Basic settings

2. Camera Registration

Register an AI X-Series camera with Nx Witness.
Register a non-AI camera with Nx Witness.

3. Enable i-PRO Object Search plug-in

On the [Camera Settings] screen of the AI X-Series camera, select the [Plug-in] tab and enable the [i-PRO Advanced Object Search plug-in].

4. Rule Configuration

1. Right-click the non-AI camera and click [Camera Rules...].

2. Click the [+ Add] button and select [Generic Event] under [Event] > [When].

3. You can filter events using [Source Contains], [Caption Contains], and [Description Contains].

[Source Contains]: The full or partial model name of the non-AI camera.
  (e.g.): WV-U2140LA
[Caption Contains]: The full or partial string of the detection mode
  (e.g.): Intruder
[Description Contains]: The full or partial string of the detected object
  (e.g.): People

* When entering a string that includes spaces, enclose the string in double quotation marks ("").
  (e.g.): "People detection"

5. How It Works

When [Show desktop notifications] is selected in [Camera Rules…] > [Action] > [Do], and an event notification is received, an animated green frame appears around the Viewing Grid.
In this example, although the WV-U2140LA is a non-AI camera, alarm detection using AI-VMD is enabled through the benefits of AI Processing Relay.
When an alarm is triggered, the event will appear as a Generic event.

You can also search for past events.
