Precautions for cameras and accessories with heavy salt damage resistance

 February 2023

i-PRO cameras and accessories with heavy salt damage resistance specification* can be installed in the wide general heavy salt damage area.  The following maintenance and precautions are required, for safety and stable operations in salt damage and heavy salt damage areas.
*ISO14993 Compliant

Installation area1:

  •   : Only heavy salt resistant products can be used
  •   : Any outdoor products can be used

Important notes:

  • The description and distance from the coast in the above table does not apply to all areas.
Damage from sea salt can occur on isolated islands, peninsulas and areas with snowfall due to a strong breeze.
  • Salt damage can occur not only along the coast but also in inland areas due to the environmental factors specific to the area.

1 Based on survey results of a major area in Japan.

Required maintenance:

  • Clean the camera unit and bracket on a regular basis to reduce salt damage.
--- For cameras installed in a coastal area, we recommend rinsing the unit on a monthly basis.
--- When rinsing is not possible or parts have deteriorated, replace parts as a priority.
  • Rinse the camera unit and bracket if sprayed by sea water due to weather conditions.
  • Use anti-corrosion screws or apply caulking to prevent screws from sticking to the mounting surface due to corrosion from salt .
  • ClearSight dome covers also need to be rinsed to remove sea salt particles that may affect the image quality.
  • Use pure water to rinse the ClearSight dome and front covers, and avoid lubricating agents and silicone components when rinsing using a hose.

Precautions on installation location :

The following environmental factors can cause deterioration of the camera mounting part/ bracket, leading to possible failure and serious injury if the camera falls. Even with the heavy salt damage resistance, avoid locations where camera units can be affected by the following environmental factors as much as possible:

  • Splashing sea water (e.g., in splash zones).
  • Corrosive gases (e.g., from volcanic/hot spring zones).
  • Vibrations (e.g., in/on vehicles, ships and/or factory lines).
  • Chemicals (e.g., at swimming pools).
  • Smoke from steam and/or oil (e.g., in kitchens).
  • Solvent and flammable gas
  • Radioactive rays, X-rays, strong electric waves or magnetism.
  • Surrounding temperatures exceeding the rated range.
  • Rapid temperature changes (e.g., outdoor air conditioning units in close proximation).
  • Rubber products containing sulfur.
