i-PRO Wins the 2025 Good Design Award for Two Products, the Millimeter-Wave Surveillance Radar and the Speaker Camera

The products received high praise for the “highly harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetic design” and for “refined design philosophy and high degree of design sophistication.”

i-PRO Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Masato Nakao; hereinafter “i-PRO”) is pleased to announce that two i-PRO products—the Speaker Camera security network camera and the Millimeter-Wave Surveillance Radar—received the Good Design Award 2025 from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP).
This marks i-PRO’s second consecutive year of receiving the Good Design Award, following the first award won by the Corner Camera in fiscal year 2024.

1. Background to Development

Large-scale facilities such as power plants, airports, and seaports face three major challenges: rising labor costs; monitoring larger areas and handling false alarms with fewer personnel; and the high cost of installing security systems. Frequent false detections caused by wind, rain, animals, and debris ultimately require human verification. Additionally, monitoring vast premises requires a large number of cameras and related equipment, driving up costs. To address these challenges, we focused on millimeter-wave radar—which offers wide coverage, high accuracy, and low false detection rates—to develop a new product capable of efficient surveillance.

2. Comments from the Good Design Award Judges

“This camera-integrated millimeter-wave radar, characterized by a gentle dome shape, is designed for large-scale facilities such as power plants, airports, and coastal areas. Its design optimizes radar performance and camera placement, while controlling rainwater runoff, achieving ruggedness and reliability, key requirements in harsh outdoor environments. Ingenious features such as integration of the mounting bracket in the rear panel enable a significantly more compact housing compared with conventional models. Using high-frequency millimeter-wave technology, it detects the movement of people and vehicles reliably even at night or in inclement weather, while dual tracking by the built-in camera provides even greater accuracy and peace of mind. An app allows users to view the detection area overlaid on a map, enhancing operational efficiency. We highly commend this product for its sophisticated balance of functionality and aesthetic design, which contributes to both labor-saving in security operations and lower environmental impact.”

3. Design of the i-PRO Millimeter-Wave Surveillance Radar

We approached the design process from two key perspectives. The first was pursuit of an optimal dome shape that satisfies the requirements of radar performance, weather-resistance, compactness, and integration of a camera. The second was the miniaturization of mounting brackets and their integration in the rear of the device to reduce effort required for installation.

① Design Highlights

・A dome shape optimized for radar detection offering weather and impact resistance.
・A camera-integrated housing that provides visual confirmation of the surrounding environment to complement radar detection and also offers visual support for adjustment of the installation position.
・An app that overlays the detection area onto a map, making it easy to grasp at a glance.

② Other Features

・By utilizing high-frequency millimeter-wave technology, the system reduces the number of devices required to cover a wide area and enables high-precision detection, helping to reduce implementation costs and environmental impact.
・The central positioning of the camera provides a 180° field of view, matching the radar, and simplifies installation by allowing visual confirmation of the detection range during the process.
・It can be integrated with up to four i-PRO AI-equipped PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras, enabling video tracking of detected objects.

③ Specifications

① Dimensions: Approx. 232 × 163 × 141 mm (excluding mounting bracket)
② Weight: Approx. 1.5 kg (excluding mounting bracket)
③ Main Materials: Polycarbonate, aluminum
④ Viewing Angle: 180° horizontal

[i-PRO Speaker Camera Award Summary]

1. Development Background

In recent years, widespread implementation of labor-saving measures in hospitals, nursing care facilities, and retail stores has led to increasingly severe labor shortages. Consequently, more facilities are installing security cameras to ensure safety and deter crime. There is also growing demand in these settings for remote communication capabilities for immediate verbal responses. We developed this product to address these needs.

2. Comments from the Good Design Award Judges

“This is a new security camera equipped with remote voice communication capabilities. Its minimalist form and two-tone front design give it a reassuring presence that minimizes the sense of being watched. We commended the highly refined design, which offers diverse installation options—such as wall, ceiling, and tabletop mounting—as well as consideration of user privacy, a wide-angle field of view, and heat dissipation. In particular, the product successfully balances high-level environmental harmony, installability, and safety, reflecting a sophisticated design philosophy.”

3. Design of the i-PRO Speaker Camera

This product features: a minimalist design that blends seamlessly into its surroundings, a two-tone finish that keeps the lens discreet; a movable rear stand for a range of installation methods; and an effective heat-dissipating aluminum rear cover to handle heat generated by the built-in AI. These features enable rapid response and reliable monitoring, even in environments facing staff shortages.

① Design Highlights

・A compact, minimalist design with horizontal and vertical lines that blends seamlessly into any environment. ・A two-tone color scheme that keeps the camera lens discreet, reducing consciousness of surveillance. ・A rear cover stand that facilitates installation in any location, including desk, wall, or ceiling.

② Other Features

・A wide horizontal field of view of 134 degrees provides wall-to-wall movement detection even in small private rooms.
・Infrared LEDs that can detect and recognize objects at night up to 20 meters away, enabling 24-hour patient monitoring in hospital hallways and large rooms.
・Image processing technology that prevents facial recognition, ensuring privacy in hospitals and care facilities.

③ Specifications

① Dimensions: Approx. 58 × 118 × 33 mm
② Weight: Approx. 280 g
③ Main Materials: Polycarbonate, aluminum
④ Field of View: Horizontal 134° / Vertical 74°
